Getting a Kick Out of Volunteering

Special needs children have always been at the center of John Burke's heart, and it didn't take long for the high school administrator to find a way to connect his love of soccer with their depth of spirit, and come up with a winning combination.

"I was inspired when I worked with Special Olympics while in college," said Burke, the International Baccalaureate coordinator at Catholic Memorial High School. "It was a defining moment."

That moment in time prompted Burke, who is also a girls' varsity soccer coach, to bring TOPSoccer - a community-based soccer program for young athletes with disabilities - to Waukesha nearly 10 years ago.

"There were so many athletic options for fully capable children, but not enough activities in place for children with special needs," said Burke, 45, of New Berlin, who in the beginning gathered together a few soccer friends to serve as volunteer coaches.

But the concept was so new at the time, "The first day, there weren't any athletes - and four coaches."

As word-of-mouth spread and interest increased over the years, the program has now become one of the strongest in the nation, with more than 40 participants with varying degrees of cognitive and physical disabilities, who are matched with 50 dedicated coaches.

"We love it," said Susan Kern, whose son, Michael, has Down syndrome and has been with the program for six years. "He is thriving. It's fun to see him get so much attention. There's no where else he could play soccer."

The program, which is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, ages 4 to 19, runs from 9 to 10 a.m. every Saturday in gyms at the high school during three seasons.

The emphasis is on cooperative play, rather than competition, although some of the older kids have regular scrimmages.

And the program is now one of 10 in the state. Others are operating in Appleton, Neenah, Madison, Walworth, Racine, Sussex, Brookfield, La Crosse and Milwaukee, said John Janasik, the state founder and coordinator for the program, which is part of the U.S. Youth Soccer Association. TOP is an acronym for The Outreach Program.

"We are very happy with its success" Janasik said. "We had a dream that there would be multiple programs throughout Wisconsin. We are accomplishing our goal."

No longer are special needs children relegated to the sidelines, he said. "This is their time. They're the stars," he said. "They score goals, wear jerseys and are part of a family of players."

Each year, teams from throughout the state come together for Winterfest. The event will take place this year from 1 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 25 at Catholic Memorial High School, where one of the Waukesha coaches, Nicole Condit, will receive the Wisconsin TOPSoccer volunteer-of-the-year Award.

"It's such a rewarding and amazing experience to be part of the program," said Condit, a freshman at DePaul University, who began coaching in the eighth grade and returns on every college break.

"The kids are always happy. I am touched by them. They are some of the most brilliant kids I've ever met," said Condit, 18. "I am currently an International Studies major, but I have been thinking of changing my major to special education. This program has had a major impact in my life."

Congratulations to the CMH JV fencing teams – JV fencing championships were held in Woodstock, Ill. this past weekend at Marian Central High School. Over 200 fencers competed from 10 schools. CMH had six finalists:

Girls' Soccer Earns 12th Consecutive Academic Team Award

Catholic Memorial Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team
Earns 12th Consecutive
NSCAA/adidas Academic All-American Team Award

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has once again recognized the academic excellence that the members of the Catholic Memorial High School Varsity Girls’ soccer team continue to achieve. For the 12th consecutive year, CMH will receive the NSCAA/adidas Academic All-American Team Award. The Varsity girls’ soccer team at Catholic Memorial earned the highest G.P.A. of all schools in Wisconsin with a 3.71 average G.P.A. during the 2010-2011 school year. The team will be recognized at the NSCAA national convention in Kansas City this January.

Most notable, the Catholic Memorial Girls’ Soccer Team is one of only nine teams in the country to have earned NSCAA Academic All-American Team honors for every year that the award has existed.

The CMH girls’ soccer team has also excelled on the field over the course of these eight years, winning 12 Classic 8 conference titles, 7 WISAA and WIAA state titles, and a NSCAA national championship.

In addition, the girls on the soccer team continue their service to the handicapped children of Waukesha County through the TOPSoccer program. In our ninth year of the program, the winter TOPSoccer season begins on Saturday, January 21st. All are welcome to join us sustain the tradition of Caritas in Omnibus through TOPSoccer service here at Catholic Memorial. Please arrive at 8:45am to play with these remarkable children until 10am each Saturday.

Congratulations to all of the girls who work so hard in the classroom, on the field, and in the community to earn these honors and sustain important Christian service.

Mom, baby, and family are doing well.

A Christmas Good Samaritan

On Thursday, after all of the exams were finished, CMH Dean of Students, Steve Plechaty, responded to a call for help from a CMH staff member who locked their keys in their car while at the Waukesha Post Office. While there, another car owner asked for help after having done the exact same thing.

Mr. Plechaty opened both cars in record time. A sign of the skills learned over years of helping a lot of newly licensed drivers out of the same problem.

P.S. I was not the one who locked my keys in the car, I just drove Steve to the Post Office. Logically, the person first helped was the one taking the picture.

FALL TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS SELECTED

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, in cooperation with Rural Mutual Insurance Company, has selected the team Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2011 Fall State Championships.

The winners of the prestigious award are Oostburg in girls volleyball, Catholic Memorial in boys volleyball, Elkhorn Area in boys soccer, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in football and Eau Claire Memorial in girls team tennis.

A large contingent and the positive enthusiasm displayed by Oostburg at the State Girls Volleyball Championships earned the Flying Dutchmen their first sportsmanship award in girls volleyball. It is the third time Oostburg has received the honor overall, having also been recognized in girls basketball in 2008 and boys basketball in 1986. They won their second Division 3 girls volleyball championship by defeating Spencer in a thrilling five-set match in the State final. Receiving honorable mention for the award are Hillsboro, Oconto Falls, Owen-Withee, Southwestern and Verona.

Catholic Memorial earns its third sportsmanship recognition, all coming in boys volleyball. The Hilltoppers also received sportsmanship accolades in 2006 and 2007. They lost in four sets to eventual State champion Marquette in the quarterfinals. Honorable mention for the award went to Muskego.

Elkhorn is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award at the Boys State Soccer Tournament. It is the first Sportsmanship Award presented to the Elks in any sport. They were on the short end of a 3-0 outcome in the Division 1 quarterfinal game against Neenah. Brookfield East, Catholic Memorial, Chippewa Falls and Newman Catholic received honorable mention for the award.

In football, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln was selected as the school and community earning the honor for their exemplary sportsmanship. It is the first time the school has been selected for the award in football, and it’s the sixth time the Red Raiders have been recognized overall. They have received sportsmanship citations in team wrestling in 1996, 2004 and 2006, in boys hockey in 2006 and in boys tennis in 2000. This fall, they fell 7-0 to Kenosha Bradford in the Division 1 title game. Receiving honorable mention were Colby, Greenwood/Granton, Lancaster, Seneca and Waterford.

Eau Claire Memorial is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award in girls team tennis for the third time, which ties Monroe for the most times honored in the sport. The Old Abes have now received seven State sportsmanship awards. In addition to the recognition in girls tennis in 1998 and 2004, they have also been bestowed the honor in boys hockey in 1992 and 2000, girls soccer in 2005, and in boys basketball in 1970. They fell to eventual State champion Homestead 6-1 in a Division 1 semifinal match after Madison East quarterfinals by the same score. Notre Dame, Oshkosh West and Regis received honorable mention for the award.

The WIAA/Rural Insurance Sportsmanship Award is presented to one school program and community–or communities in the case of cooperative programs–in each of the State team tournaments that exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship. Award winners are determined by the conduct and sportsmanship displayed by athletes, coaches, cheer and support groups, mascots, bands and spectators. Additional consideration is given for the effort of school administrators and chaperones to insure support for their teams are positive and that the highest ideals of sportsmanship are upheld.

Award winners receive a trophy and banner in recognition of the honor. Schools receiving honorable mention are acknowledged with a certificate of recognition. The selection process includes contributions and evaluations from contest officials, tournament management, police and security personnel, crowd control and ushers, WIAA staff members, and area hotels and restaurants on occasion.

Bishop Hying visits CMH

Milwaukee's new auxiliary bishop, the Most Reverend Donald Hying, joined the CMH community for mass on this Solemn Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Also joining in the celebration were Fr. Erich Weiss, associate pastor of St. Jerome Parish, Oconomowoc, and Deacon Scott Campbell of St. William Parish, Waukesha.

After the mass, Bishop Hying shared lunch at the CMH Rectory with a small group of students, parents, and staff.

CMH Alum wins Architecture Prize

CMH alum, Sara Maas, was part of a winning team of architects recognized by the Architecture at Zero organization.

ARCHITECTURE AT ZERO is an international open ideas competition with a focus on the specific challenges of creating urban zero net energy (ZNE) buildings. The competition seeks creative and feasible approaches to urban ZNE building to broaden the conversation around how a site zero net energy project will be approached now and in the future. Further, it seeks to raise the profile of ZNE building among built-environment professionals, students, and the general public in California and beyond.

Catholic Memorial Receives National Certification for STEM Program

Catholic Memorial High School recently announced that it has received national certification for the Project Lead The Way program that it has been offering for the last three years.

Project Lead The Way, a non-profit organization and the nation’s leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, offers a rigorous curriculum that allows students to apply what they are learning in math and science class to real-life engineering and technology projects.

PLTW is providing students with a foundation and proven path to college and career success in these areas and to fill the high-tech, high-skill jobs of the 21-Century.

The primary purposes of the certification program are to recognize schools that have successfully demonstrated a commitment to the quality national standards of the Pathway To Engineering program and to provide an opportunity for students to apply for college credit at PLTW affiliate Universities for selected PLTW courses. PLTW has more than 35 college and university partners that offer students credit for completing certain PLTW courses in high school, including Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Wisconsin.

“We’ve seen how the PLTW program draws more students to engineering and technology courses and gets them thinking about college and their career,” said Bob Hall, principal of Catholic Memorial High School. “We are extremely proud to be PLTW certified and ecstatic that our students can begin receiving college-level recognition including credits for certain PLTW classes.”

Hall and a team composed of teachers, staff, students, and members of the community completed a self-assessment of the school’s implementation of the Pathway to Engineering program that culminated in a site visit by a national PLTW certification specialist. The certification team met with teachers, administration, counselors, students, community representatives and reviewed student work.

“Catholic Memorial High School has demonstrated its commitment to the quality standards of PLTW’s Pathway To Engineering program and the real winners are CMH students,” said Thor S. Misko, interim CEO of PLTW. “Students are benefiting from an innovative curriculum that encourages creativity, problem solving and critical thinking and on top of that, they can earn college credit for some of these courses, gain admissions preference and receive scholarships.

“We congratulate the entire Catholic Memorial High School community and look forward to many more years of working together to prepare CMH students to become the most innovative and productive in the world.”

Teachers are a critical component of the success of the PLTW program. All teachers are required to complete an intensive two-week professional development course during the summer before they can teach a PLTW course. Students who enroll in PLTW courses also benefit from the organization’s strong university and industry relationships that allow students to begin working toward their college degree and gain valuable experience through internships and local business executives who serve as mentors.

“The beauty of PLTW courses is that our kids get to experience how a formula they learned in math applies to a real-world project,” said Rose Hoffmann, CMH mathematics and computer science teacher. “In class, there are no lectures – kids are building, developing and creating. That is the kind of hands-on experience that will engage more students in fields that they might otherwise never consider.”

CMH’s Art Department hosted the second grade scout troop from St. Mary’s Elementary School in Waukesha on Monday afternoon, Nov. 28.

CMH students were on hand to help these young students feel comfortable while drawing with colored pencils, painting with bleeding markers, and experiencing the darkroom.

While here at CMH, these happy campers earned their Art Badge! It was a wonderful experience for all the students involved.

On this, the first school day of Advent, as is our tradition, the school community gathered for a Reconciliation Service, and then in the period of time needed to make individual confessions available to all students, the class rotated through various presentations.

Below is pictured the presentation of the great outcomes that flowed from the Haunted House, with checks presented to two worthwhile causes; updates and reflections on the NHS Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Service Club Thanksgiving Dinner.

In the cafeteria, students reviewed a variety of way that they can get involved in service during the Advent and Christmas season. Of special focus this year was the presentation by Rosemary Reilly, '84, on the various works of the local Salvation Army.

In the auditorium, the international students were given a more formal opportunity to introduce themselves and the culture from which they come.

I want to take the chance to offer special thanks to the eight priests who came to assist with individual confessions today. Their support of CMH and our students is greatly appreciated.

Dear members of the CMH Family:

The Roman philosopher Cicero once said that “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the father of all the others.” I often ask myself, do I live my life showing my thanks for graces and blessings given often enough?

Last week, I was asked on a radio program what I am most thankful for. The answer was easy – I am thankful that I am so happy in my priesthood and constantly find joy in my work. I am thankful that Archbishop Listecki gave me a three year extension as president of CMH. I am thankful that I can still serve the archdiocese as judicial vicar, and still teach at Marquette’s Law School. I am thankful to everyone who helps me to serve the Church with holiness and commitment.

I am thankful for CMH! Thankful that it is a place of vision – our Vision 2020 Strategic Plan sets out the school’s roadmap for the next eight years. I am thankful that this is a place of great education – our teachers and staff give their all for every student who comes to our halls. I am thankful that we so effectively guide a new generation of faith-filled young people to reach their God-given potential – our family atmosphere, high expectations, and wealth of opportunities, make CMH a place of success for all. I am thankful that CMH is a place that prepares kids for college and for adult life – at CMH wisdom, discernment, and moral decision-making are the character traits we seek to affirm.

Most importantly, I am thankful that CMH is a community dedicated to service. Because of the blessings which we have been given in life, it is only right that from that thankfulness flow acts of charity and sacrifice.

I am thankful to all members of the CMH family for the acts of service, charity, and support which you extend to us. Because of your generosity, all that we succeed in doing is made possible.

CMH Hosts Fencing Tournament

More than 340 high school fencers from across the Midwest competed at Catholic Memorial High School on Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Midwest High School Fencing Invitational. Six states were represented: Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, and Kansas. This is the biggest meet among the eleven schools in the Great Lakes Conference.

Catholic Memorial’s Varsity Fencing Team consists of 41 athletes, of those, 4 made it to the final rounds. Justin Vavra, Men’s Foil, placed 3rd overall; Maggie Clay, Women’s Foil, placed 5th, while Jess Furrer, also in Women’s Foil, placed 8th; Melissa Schobert placed 7th in Women’s Epee, as well. In addition to these finalists, 8 CMH athletes placed among the top 16 overall in all weapons.

Catholic Memorial’s Fencing Team has been competing for 34 years and seventeen of our Fencing Alumni returned to referee Saturday’s event. Former CMH fencers Dan Torchia, ’82, and Adam Puzach, ’08, are the assistant coaches under Head Coach, Mike Sampon who is in his 39th year as art teacher at CMH.

CMH is proud to have graduated athletes who have gone on to fence as the first alternate for the USA Team at the Junior World Championships in Brazil, coach at the Air Force Academy, compete in varsity programs at Northwestern, Notre Dame, Columbia, Ohio State, Michigan State, Air Force Academy, UW-Madison, and others. CMH fencing athletes have won Big Ten Championships, fenced for the NCAA National Championship Team at Notre Dame, and on teams winning #2 in the NCAA National Championships (Penn State) and #3 in the NCAA National Championships (Ohio State.) Many alumni have earned national ratings.

This quality coaching staff offers a summer Fencing Camp for students entering 4th grade through adults. Watch for details on this camp and many more of CMH's summer academic and athletic camps available in February.

UWM wins volleyball title
Panthers roll into NCAA tournament

The UW-Milwaukee volleyball team punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament Sunday.

Tournament most valuable player Elizabeth Egerer had 15 kills and the UW-Milwaukee controlled the contest from start to finish in rolling to a 25-15, 25-21, 25-16 win over Cleveland State in the Horizon League Tournament championship match Sunday at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers (25-4) have now won the league tournament title for the seventh time and clinched their ninth NCAA berth.

UWM will find out its next opponent next Sunday at 5 p.m. when the NCAA selection show airs on ESPNews.

UWM, which won the league regular season crown and swept both of its tournament matches, has also won a school-record 18-straight matches overall.

The match never really in doubt as the Panthers led by at least nine points in each of the three sets.

UWM hit .308% while limiting second-seeded Cleveland State (21-7) to a .102% hitting clip.

Freshman Julie Kolinske added 13 kills and joined Egerer on the all-tournament team. Freshman Kayla Price was also on the all-tournament squad after tallying 36 assists to go with three kills and six digs in the victory.

Morgan Potter had 16 digs to lead UWM's defense.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of “The Spitfire Grill” for sweeping all of the awards at the State Theatre Festival for the tenth straight year!

The cast was declared, by their adjudicators, to be the top show of the weekend, as they unanimously awarded the cast the “Critics Choice Award,” the festival’s highest honor. The cast was also given the “Outstanding Ensemble Award” for their overall work as a total company.

In addition, the following cast members were cited for their individual work with Outstanding Acting Awards: Nico Fernandez, Megan Miller, Alex Gromacki, Teddy Delforge and Kelly Scherrer. Nico, Megan and Alex have all become members of a very exclusive club as there are only 48 actors, in the 117 year history of the State Theatre Festival, who have won two or more awards over their high school careers.

Finally, Mr. Andacht received his tenth straight Outstanding Director Award for his work with “The Spitfire Grill.” Kudos to all the cast and crew!

Three Girls Golfers named to Academic All-State

According to the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin three members of the Crusader Girls Golf Team have been named to the Academic All-State Team. To be eligible the golfer must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher who played in at least 75% of varsity matches.

CMH Alum recognized by Archbishop

On Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 15 individuals received the Archbishop’s Vatican II Award for Distinguished Service for outstanding contributions to the Church and society. A prayer service and award ceremony were held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

The awards were established in 1991 to honor men, women and young adults who exemplify the Catholic Church’s vision set forth in the Second Vatican Council.

Service to the Church: John Paul II Youth Award – Sam Meier (CMH '11)

Sam Meier spent much of his time at Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha, helping fellow classmates see Christ in themselves. He was a member of the Campus Ministry Leadership Team during his junior and senior years of high school, and helped to plan all of the high school’s religious events. Through CMLT, he had the opportunity to manage lectors for school Masses, was a freshman retreat mentor during his senior year, coordinated the liturgical music committee and helped the Ignite Student Youth Group, an adoration-centered youth group that also plans social time for participating teens. Meier belongs to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, North Lake.

Yesterday, CMH had our 2 ½ year review of our Project Lead the Way program, emphasizing a community need for STEM education and Discovery Learning. We are proud to announce that CMH is now a fully certified PLTW school.

Site inspectors, representatives from MSOE, were very impressed with our students, instructors, and community interest. We would like to thank Anne Staab, Mary Petrie, Rose Hoffman and Kevin Heaney for their hours of hard work getting ready for this accreditation visit.

Also to be thanked is our CMH PLTW site team, Mike Giffhorn, Kevin Heaney, Rose Hoffmann, Mike Hoge, Richard Lincoln, Paul McInerny, Mary Petrie, Thomas Quinn, Anne Staab, John Symms, Joy Weber and Shane Wendt, for their dedication and support of the program.

Now that CMH is certified, students have the ability to receive transcript credits from MSOE. As we begin to move forward, the accreditation recommended next steps and our site team will be committed to future accomplishments.

I think the word might be irony...

I am in New York for a couple of days.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit the 9/11 National Memorial. It was a very moving and sobering experience. As someone whose family is originally from NY, and who has relatives who were part of the once Irish Catholic backbone of the NYPD and FDNY, I have always been moved by the ultimate sacrifice made by the 343 firefighters and the 60 police officers who ran toward the towers as everyone else was running the other way.

There is about a three block walk between the place where you get your tickets to enter the monument area and the monument itself. On the walk in between you have to pass the now infamous Zucotti Park, home of the Occupy Wall Street campsite.

The irony? Probably on a spot where ten years ago someone decided to run into the buildings to try and save others fully knowing the risks and the potential sacrifice, today, that spot had a dingy twenty-something holding a sign that read "Free My Slavry to College Debt!" (Yes, it was spelled just like that.)

Wow, how things have changed.

CMH Girls Swimmers Qualify for State

The CMH Girls Swim Team gathers for a team prayer between warm-ups and the start of competition.

Saturday was the Girl's Swimming Sectional for Division II.

Catholic Memorial sent 7 girls to the meet held at Cudahy High School.

Anna Meinholz, a senior, won the 200 yard IM, which entitled her a position in the state meet. She also finished second in the 100 yard Breaststroke and qualified for the state meet in that event. Mary Kate Berens, Junior, qualified for the state meet in the 200 yard Freestyle and the 500 yard Freestyle.

Of the CMH 7 girls, there was one senior, 2 juniors, 2 sophomores and 2 freshman.

The State meet will be held at the UW Natatorium on Friday November 11 at 6:30 pm at the UW Natatorium in Madison.

Catholic Memorial captures third straight state title

Ashwaubenon - At the start of the season, Catholic Memorial girls volleyball coach Ted Schulte offered a theme for his 2011 squad.

Into the light.

It was a call for his players to step out of the shadows of a talented 2011 senior class that led the program to state titles in 2009 and '10 and make their own mark. Well, if this season was a new era for the Crusaders, the bottom line remained the same.

Memorial defeated Tomahawk, 25-18, 25-13, 25-19, to win the WIAA Division 2 state title Saturday at the Resch Center. It was Memorial's third straight state crown - only seven other programs have accomplished the feat - but the first in a starring role for most of the team's top players, some of whom were justifiably giddy.

"I'm shaking I'm so excited," senior middle hitter Amanda Hansen said.

While many of the Crusaders (46-6) did take a back seat to the leaders of the 2010 team, they were far from slouches. Hansen and senior setter Sara Connell have committed to Seton Hall. Junior outside hitter Aly Dawson has committed to Marquette, and senior outside hitter Kaitlyn Hastings plans to sign with South Dakota.

The weight of all that talent came crushing down on Tomahawk, which finished 38-10.

Dawson finished with 15 kills in 20 attacks and posted a .700 hitting percentage. Hansen had 10 kills in 17 attacks and a .471 hitting percentage. Connell had 48 assists.

Senior middle blocker Kellan Flynn led Tomahawk with 11 kills, and Kayli Ogstad, another senior middle, was next with six. Anna Sudbury, a senior setter, had 21 assists.

Overall, Memorial hit a more-than-respectable .465 and used its defense in the back row and serving to limit Tomahawk to just 24 kills and a .187 hitting percentage.

Schulte called it the team's most complete match of the year.

"I certainly didn't think we played our best volleyball largely due to the fact that Catholic Memorial forced us to not play our best volleyball," Tomahawk coach Jen Pfannerstill said. "They put us on our heels. They were aggressive at the net. They were aggressive from the serving line. They dug up a lot of balls for us that normally go down. They put us on the defensive, and that is not a role we like to play.

"The bottom line is they're bigger, they're faster, they're stronger. They're the best team in the state for a reason."

The three sets each followed a familiar pattern, with the Hatchets staying close through the first half of the set before Memorial pulled away

In the first set, a 7-1 run turned a 12-12 game into a 19-13 lead with Hansen, Dawson and junior right-side hitter Mary Kate Dougherty (nine kills) recording kills.

In the second set, an 8-8 tie was quickly a 17-9 Memorial advantage. Senior middle hitter Greta Davis (eight kills) had two kills and a block.

Though the margin of victory in the third set was the closest, it arguably was the least competitive. Memorial scored four straight points thanks to kills from Hansen, Hastings and Dougherty to take an 8-4 lead. The Crusaders led, 20-11, before Tomahawk trimmed the deficit.

"We played as a whole today," Dawson said. "Yesterday we had our times where we were playing individually. It just doesn't work. We realized that after we lost almost two sets in a row."

From there, it wasn't long before Memorial clinched the championship and in the process set a school record for victories and games won with 111.

Step into the light? Memorial accomplished that goal with ease, and Saturday they basked in the glow of their accomplishment.

"We wanted to come here and prove to people that we are just as good as were last year and we did it again," Dawson said.

Gundrum Named to Appeals Court
