Celebrating Lives of Service & Sacrifice

Today, Catholic Memorial High School made its annual remembrance of the reason for our founding - to be a living memorial to 23 fallen servicemen from St. Joseph's Parish and to honor 6 more former CMH students who died in service to their country.

As they have for the last few years, a Color Guard from Fox Company, the Marine reservist unit of CMH grad Richard Warner, the most recent addition to the Honor Roll who died in 2004, in Babal Province, Iraq.

The program started with the Presentation of the Colors, National Anthem, a reading of the names of the Honor Roll, Taps, and a retirement of the colors.

We were blessed by the presence of eight priests from our parishes, senior priests, and former CMH staff members Fr. Jim Loehr and Fr. Dennis Ackeret.   Above, the concelebrating priests listen to the recitation of the Honor Roll before the start of mass. Deacon Scott Campbell from St. William's assisted.

The presider and homilist for the special mass was the Most Reverend Timothy Broglio, Archbishop for the Military Services, USA.  Having spent Easter and most of the days since in Afghanistan and other forward deployment areas, the Archbishop came to Wisconsin today just for our celebration.

Joining us were the Robert and Bridget Warns, parents of Bobby Warns, '99, who is number twenty-eight on the Honor Roll of twenty-nine for whom CMH is a memorial.

Joining us for the first time this year were the nephews and great nephews of Angelus Wise, the first name on the Honor Roll who died on May 10, 1942 while forced unto the Bataan Death March.  John Wise is a CMH graduate from the Class of 1963.

Also present today were relatives of Navy Ensign Everett Kelso who died in 1942, and Army Air Corps 2nd Lt. Harry Kruck, Jr. who dies in 1943.

In recognizing the commitment to service and sacrifice that CMH hold so important, we also paused to recognize CMH's Crusader of the Year.  Nominated and chosen by students, faculty, and staff, this year's winner, Kelsey Wort (on right), awaits the announcement with the other finalists Michaela Hoffmann and Kevin Jerke.
