Last Monday, Leif Arvidson and Marc Copeland joined the Catholic Memorial community to speak about the history leading up to the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego as well as some of the significance of the image of Our Lady. Leif is the Executive Director of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in LaCrosse; Mark helped to build it and serves in buildings and grounds there. Carmen de la Paz, of La Casa de Esperanza, was kind enough to help offer the presentation in Spanish as well.
CMH senior David Wittmann commented "I really enjoyed learning about the history and the apparition. The point that stood out most to me was when Mark said we are all called to be the modern "Juan Diegos" of the world." Mark encouraged all to look to Our Lady as our mother as John did at the foot of the cross. Mark encouraged students to take a simple step in faith, praying one Hail Mary each day, noting that Mary will draw us to her son.
Students also had the opportunity to spend time with a laser copy of the tilma of Juan Diego. Catholic Memorial is grateful to Liz Pesci, and St. Mary Visitation Parish, Elm Grove, for helping to make this presentation possible.
