Memorial wins tournament Crusaders then beat Lasers

WHITEFISH BAY – The Catholic Memorial High School softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 4-3 deficit and defeated Divine Savior Holy Angels 54 in the championship game of the Whitefish Bay Tournament on Saturday.

Memorial freshman Hannah Smith had three hits, including a home run, while senior Tia Johnson had two hits, including a home run. Senior Rachel Ramthun, the winning pitcher, had two hits and two runs, sophomore Mary Kate Sauer had two hits and three RBIs and freshman Maria Fernandez
had two hits as Memorial outhit DSHA 12-5.

Ramthun struck out seven as Memorial improved its season record to 9-5.

Catholic Memorial beat Brown Deer 17-3 and downed Whitefish Bay 13-3 in pool play.

Smith went 10 for 11 in the tournament with seven runs and six RBIs. Sauer went 8 for 10 and with 11 RBIs, while Johnson had six hits in the tournament, including two home runs, and drove in three runs. Ramthun also had six hits in the tournament and scored eight

• • WAUKESHA – Smith and freshman Brenna Lewandowski each had three of Catholic Memorial’s 16 hits in an 18-11 Classic 8 Conference
victory over Kettle Moraine at Infinity Fields on Monday.

Memorial, 10-5 overall and 7-5 in conference, scored nine runs in the fourth inning as it overcame five errors.

Smith drove in four runs and scored four runs, while Lewandowski scored three runs.

Sauer had two hits, including a home run, drove in four runs and scored twice. Johnson had two hits and two RBIs, while Ramthun, the winning pitcher, and junior Mari Klement each had two hits. Ramthun scored four runs.

Senior Hannah Foltz had four of Kettle Moraine’s eight hits and drove in two runs.
