New girls basketball coach at CMH

from today's Waukesha Freeman -

Dejewski replaces Guess

WAUKESHA – Therese Dejewski is the new girls varsity basketball coach at Catholic Memorial High School.

CMH Athletic Director Greg Gamalski announced the coaching change Monday, noting former coach Ron Guess had too much of a time commitment in his full-time job to continue coaching.

“Ron stepped down because his job started to demand more time and effort,” Gamalski said of Guess. “He couldn’t devote as much time as needed to being a head coach.”

Guess, who was hired two years ago and whose team was 5-19 last season, could not be reached for comment.

Gamalski said he received several applications for the position, but Dejewski’s familiarity with the program helped her earn the head coaching job. Dejewski, a 2007 CMH graduate, was an assistant for the Crusaders since 2008.

“Therese is an alum, so she understands the culture of the school,” Gamalski said. “She’s involved with organizing all the summer leagues; she’s also involved with the junior program, so she had an edge there.

“I interviewed some very good candidates. That made it very interesting.”
