CMH Wrestler advances to State Tourney

Wrestlers advance

WAUPUN – Pewaukee High School qualified two wrestlers for the state individual tournament, while Catholic Memorial and St. John’s Northwestern each qualified one.

Pewaukee finished 10th behind champion Lomira in the Waupun Sectional, while St. John’s Northwestern was 16th and Catholic Memorial 17th.

The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Division 2 state tournament Thursday through Saturday.

Pewaukee’s Alex Owens returns to the state tournament as he was second at 132 Saturday, while teammate Rajiv Geffert was third at 106.
Pewaukee’s Garrett Shibilski was fourth at 145 after losing 2-1 in double overtime in the third-place match.

Qualifying third at 182 pounds was Catholic Memorial’s Justin Dentici, who was pinned in the quarterfinals but came back to pin his opponent in the consolation semifinals and win 6-0 in the third-place match.

Memorial’s David McLeod finished fourth at 126.

Jordan Newman of St. John’s Northwestern will go to the state tournament undefeated as he had two tech falls and a majority decision to easily win the 170-pound sectional championship.
