Volleyball's Kelli Browning Named MVC Freshman of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Creighton Volleyball’s Kelli Browning [CMH '11] has been named the initial Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, league officials announced today.

A Waukesha, Wis., product, Browning averaged 1.58 kills and 1.08 blocks per set while hitting .241 in three matches last weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational.

She opened her career with six blocks and 11 kills in a five-set win over UTSA. The six blocks were the most in a debut in school history, while her 11 kills rank second-highest and were the most in a debut by any Bluejay since 1994.

After three kills and two blocks at Texas A&M in a loss on Friday, she closed her week with five kills and five blocks in a rematch with the Aggies on Saturday.

She is the first Creighton Volleyball student-athlete honored after the first week of the season since Korie Lebeda claimed MVC Player of the Week accolades on Aug. 28, 2006.

Browning and her teammates will head to Manhattan, Kan., on Tuesday to take on Kansas State. The contest can be heard locally on KKAR (1290 AM), with first serve at 7 pm.
