Catholic Memorial wins in overtime

GREENDALE – Sophomore forward Jake Giffhorn broke a 63-63 tie by going 4 for 4 from the freethrow line as the Catholic Memorial High School boys basketball team beat Greendale 67-63 in a nonconference game Tuesday. It was the third consecutive victory for Memorial, 5-11 overall.

Memorial trailed by five points in overtime, but a 3-pointer and a driving layup by senior guard Alex Broge helped pull Memorial even and set up Giffhorn’s heroics. Memorial made 22 of 34 free throws in the game, with Giffhorn making 7 of 10.

Sophomore guard Ty Sabin, getting a start because of an injury to Ryan Connell, scored nine of his 13 points in the first quarter when Memorial jumped out to a 21-11 lead. Broge scored five points in the first quarter and finished with 16 points, junior guard Ryan Taugher had 13 points as he went 6 for 6 from the line and Giffhorn had nine points
