Memorial fourth in close tournament
Olson wins 285 crown

MILWAUKEE – Nick Olson won the championship at 285 pounds to help the Catholic Memorial High School wrestling team finish fourth in the 17-team Milwaukee Lutheran Invitational on Saturday. Memorial had 179 points, while Wisconsin Lutheran won with 189.5. Lakeside Lutheran was second with 184 points, one point better than Marquette. St. John’s Northwestern Military was sixth with 90.5 points.

Olson won by pin in the quarterfinals and semifinals, then beat Ben Ewings of Lakeside Lutheran 3-2 in double-overtime for the title. Taking second for Memorial were Matt Groehler at 215, Jake Parworth at 140 and David McLeod at 103.

Groehler and McLeod each pinned their way into the championship match of their respective weight class. Groehler lost the title match 3-2 in overtime to Marquette’s Brett Geilenfeldt, while McLeod was pinned in 1:50 of his title match by Joseph Nguyen of St. Lawrence Seminary.

Parworth pinned his first two opponents and gained a 21-6 decision in the semifinals before being pinned in 2:53 ot the championship match by Wisconsin Lutheran’s Ryan Whitehouse.

Memorial’s Romeo Orosco was third at 119, Matt Hauser was third at 152 and Matt Krause was fourth at 130.
