Christian Athletic Scholarship winners

WAUKESHA – The 2010 Christian Athletic Scholarship Awards Banquet was held Sunday, during which five students received awards.

Pictured from left to right are: Aleah Heinlein, Catholic Memorial High School, received a $2,000 female scholarship; Jacob Laux, Kettle Moraine High School, received a $2,000 male scholarship; Kelly Koier, Menomonee Falls High School, received a $2,000 Garrett Becker Scholarship; Cassie Raduka, Oconomowoc High School, received a $5,000 Doug Baker Memorial Scholarship; and Mackenzie Metcalf, eighth grade, received a scholarship to Lake Country Lutheran High School.

The Christian Scholarship Foundation seeks to honor young men and women who have shown tremendous effort and ability in four important areas: Christian witness and service, athletic accomplishments, academic skills and school activities. It is the intent of the scholarship foundation to honor young people who have excelled in these areas and to encourage other young people to follow in their steps.

The awards included the Divine Redeemer Award,The Garrett Becker Award,The Male and Female Christian Athletic Scholarship and The Doug Baker Christian Leadership Award. The Doug Baker Christian Leadership Award is presented to the nominee who has displayed outstanding Christian leadership.

The award is given in memory of Douglas Baker, who was a member of Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church. He attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he played football. He is remembered for his character, leadership and love for Jesus Christ.
