A recap of the Girls Volleyball Team Service Project

CMH Girls Volleyball Team "Dig for the Cure" to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

The Catholic Memorial High School Girls Volleyball program, in conjunction with the Pius XI High School Girls Volleyball program, recently held a "Dig for the Cure" event to raise funds for breast cancer research.

The players received pledges for "digs" during our Varsity, JV, and Freshman conference matches against each other at Catholic Memorial High School (CMH) on October 6th, 2009. The players created posters that were hung in the school to promote the event. We designed a t-shirt to be worn by all the players during school the day of the match to promote attendance and awareness. The players and coaches wore the t-shirts during warm-ups prior to the match to show support for raising funds for breast cancer research.

During the course of receiving pledges, we received a generous donation from a CMH parent to cover the cost of the t-shirts. We also received an inspiring letter from another CMH parent wishing to match a portion of the donations we raised, which the CMH team really responded to. The CMH teams raised $6,224.25 and the Pius XI teams raised $968.40 in pledge donations. They also held a bake sale during the match that raised $305.50 and a 50/50 raffle that raised $98.50.

We have wrapped up our 2009 fundraiser and are very pleased to present the Breast Cancer Research Foundation with our combined donation for the amount of $7,596.65.

Sincerely,
