PREP GOLF PREVIEW: CATHOLIC MEMORIAL
Crusaders look strong again
Two juniors to lead team
.
WAUKESHA – The Catholic Memorial High School girls golf team has a tough act to follow, but it might very well have the cast it needs to do exactly that. The Crusaders finished first in the Classic 8 Conference Tournament, third in the conference regular season and second in their regional and sectional a year ago.
.
Steve Plechaty, beginning his 12th season as head coach, has two proven co-stars. Junior Isabella Lambert posted a 41.4 average to earn first-team all-conference and third-team all-state honors last year when she claimed sixth place in the WIAA Division 1 state tournament. Her low scores were 38 for nine holes and 75 for 18. Lauren Seubert, also a junior, averaged 43.5 and made second-team all-conference. Her lows were 41 over nine holes and 83 over 18.
.
“We will become more competitive as a team as we gain experience,” Plechaty said. “Isabella and Lauren provide a strong nucleus to build around.” Lambert, Seubert and their teammates must pick up the slack created by the graduation of Marion Accola, who paced last year’s squad with a 39.6 average in earning firstteam all-conference and second-team all-state status.
.
Plechaty lists the following players as promising newcomers: senior Sam Staskiewicz, sophomores Maddie Quartaro and Brittany Weber and freshman Ava Olson. The coach picks Arrowhead, Kettle Moraine and Pius XI as the Classic 8 favorites.
