St. Blaise redux

This afternoon I celebrated mass with the cast, crew, and families of the CMH Spring musical, South Pacific.

While the patron saints of actors are St. Genesius & St. Vitus, and the patroness of singers is St. Cecilia, today we asked the intercession of St. Blaise.

Just over three weeks ago, on February 3rd, the Church celebrated the Memorial of St. Blaise, on that day most Church's (the CMH Chapel included) offered the blessing of throats, or St. Blaise Blessing.

It has been a tradition at CMH in the last few years to offer this blessing to the actors and singers in each of the productions. A nice, faith-filled, touch I believe.

If you don't remember the words of blessing...

“Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you free from every disease of the throat, and from every other illness. In the name of the Father and of the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit.”

“Per intercessionem Sancti Blasii, episcopi et martyris, liberet te Deus a malo gutturis, et a quolibet alio malo. In nomine Patris, et Filii +, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.“
